Civil Fraud

Civil fraud, also called deceit and fraudulent misrepresentation, is made up of four key elements. First, a false representation must have been made by the defendant; second, there must be some level of knowledge of the false representation on the part of the defendant; third, this false representation caused the plaintiff to act; and finally, the plaintiff’s actions resulted in a loss of some kind. This can include employee theft, secret commission schemes, mortgage fraud, title fraud, telemarketing and advance-free loan frauds, credit card and cheque fraud.
